Your lawyer should keep the original or a copy of your will. In addition, you should keep copies in a place where your family members, executors, health care proxy, or attorney-in-fact could get to them. You do not want to keep your will, trust or power of attorney in a safe deposit box because if you’re the only named person on that account, no one else will be able to get into your safe deposit box to get those documents without a power of attorney.
If you have included a health care proxy, the lawyer should keep the original and you should also give a copy to your attending physician as well to be made part of your medical records.
